I live abroad, can I subscribe to Boom?
No, the legislative rules in Romania stipulate that Boom services can be available only on the national territory. In the future, Boom will be available in Hungary and Moldavia.

Where can I sign up for a subscription?
Subscription is possible only in the distribution network listed on the Boom site.

How is the monthly subscription invoiced?
On the 3rd day of each month, we issue the invoice for the added value services (pay-per-view) in the previous month to which the value of the subscription for the month to come is added. Until the 25th day of that month, the invoice must be paid completely.

What does Boom offer compared to other digital service operators?
Boom plans to mark a new era of entertainment in Romania. By using the latest digital technology generation, Boom provides a variety of TV programs. The new trend proposed by Boom for the multi-channel technology focuses on you, by offering you the chance to choose the way of spending your leisure from a large variety of possibilities.

How does Boom provide the warranty for the equipment?
Any failure will be transmitted to the Boom representative who will answer to one of the Call Center's phones (021) 232.55.66 or *BOOM (0741.872.666 – Orange network) or *MYBOOM (0725.692.666 – Vodafone network). If the problem may not be solved by phone, a technical team that will identify the failure on the spot will arrive in at most 24 hours.

How can I access Pay-Per-View packages?
Enter the Set-Top-Box menu, push “programme guide” or directly“ guide” on the remote, then roll until you reach the channel wanted (Boom Cinema1, Boom Cinema2) and choose the movie you would like to watch.

Then contact Call Center (021)232.55.66 or *BOOM (0741.872.666 – Orange network) or *MYBOOM (0725.125.929 – Vodafone network) so that you can be identified in the customer database and you can watch the movie at the scheduled hour. In the future, we will enable the ordering of movies through SMS by sending a code, as well as directly from the Set-Top-Box menu, if you are connected to a phone line.

How could I restrict the access of children to certain programs?
The movies or the programs broadcasted by Boom are marked by a certain “rating” symbol. According to your selection in “options”->”parental lock”, the access to certain types of movies will be blocked.
At most 5 channels can be blocked as follows: “programmes”-> “blocked channels”.


About equipment

Can I install the reception kit by myself?
In order to benefit by the Boom service warranty provided in the contract and free of charge troubleshooting and to make sure that the system operates in the adequate technical parameters, we recommend you the installation to be performed by the companies authorized to provide such services for Boom. If you decide to carry out the installation by yourself, Boom takes no responsibility for the service quality and any after-installation intervention will be paid by you. In this last situation, you benefit by the equipment warranty only.

Can the receiver be scheduled to start at a certain hour on a defined channel, so that the VCR/DVD recorder (coupled between SET TOP BOX and TV) may record the movie broadcasted on that channel?
The STB can be scheduled to start on a certain channel, however the DVD recorder must be scheduled individually to start recording.

Can I use a single aerial for several receivers?
Yes.

Can the aerial be installed at a different address than the one specified on the Identity Card?
The aerial will be installed at the address specified in the service contract, regardless if is different from the address in the identity card.

In case of domicile change, can the aerial and the subscription, respectively be relocated to the new address?
Yes, the aerial can be moved to the new address, however you will pay for the counter-value of two installation operations: the dismounting from the old address and the mounting at the new address, if installation is demanded.

If I already hold an aerial and a receiver, can I purchase the card only from Boom and use it on the already existing system?

No, in order to benefit by the Boom service, you have to purchase the Boom receiver as well.

How can I acquire the reception kit for DTH Boom services?
The STB and SmartCard will be bought from dealers, the remaining equipment will be brought by the installation team.

How many TV sets can I connect to the satellite receiver?
Through one TV signal distribution network, several TV sets can be connected, however they will operate as screens, the channel switch function being taken over by the digital receiver (STB). In order to view different programs on two or several TV sets you need 2 or several receivers. For such situations, ask for the special offers from the Boom dealers or at the Call Center (021)232.55.66 or *BOOM (0741.872.666 – Orange network) or *MYBOOM (0725.692.666 – Vodafone network).

What parabolic aerial and LNB are used to receive the TV programs as part of Boom services?
To receive the TV programs of the Boom services, you need an aerial with 80 cm in diameter, model Gibertini OP80 and LNB high technology model in Europe, SKYWARE 1019. In case you already hold a LNB aerial, this must have the minimal technical parameters described above and the aerial must be oriented toward AMOS2 satellite.

Where the parabolic aerial should be mounted?
The parabolic aerial must face to the satellite. To do this, you must make sure that on the AMOS2 satellite direction ( 39° SW for Bucharest up to 32° SW for Timisoara) at an angle of 30° to the horizontal line there is vacant field to the sky, without obstacles ( ex: buildings or trees). If however the apartment /house faces to the North, you must search for a location from where the parabolic aerial can see to the satellite on the above-mentioned direction.

Can I find more details on the receiver? What functions does it incorporate?
The receiver operates based on a software including the TV guide (Electronic Program Guide), that displays information on the daily schedule or weekly schedule.
Through EPG, functions as below can be accessed:
  • Parental Lock (children’s access can be restricted to certain programs not recommended for them);
  • Instant Messaging (messages from the service provider);
  • Automatic search and storing for channels (with several types of sorting),
  • PIN code blocking;
  • Various image and sound settings;
  • Possibility to choose the guide subtitling in Romanian, English or Hungarian;
  • Games.


About channel reception

Can I receive radio stations as well?
A radio package is available as of October 2006.

What are the reception parameters of TV channels in this package?
The satellite used is AMOS2 positioned at 4 degrees to the West. The transponder 1’s frequency is 10889MHZ, FEC 7/8 and SR=27.500. Horizontal polarization.

What coding rule is used by the DTH package provided by BoomTV?

What is the satellite coverage area?
The satellite covers the entire national territory, under very good operating conditions.

How many transponders do you hold?
Four transponders, for the moment, with the following frequency rates:
Transponder 1: Frequency=10.889 Mhz , SR=27.500 Msps, FEC=7/8, Horizontal polarization
Transponder 2: Frequency=10.925 Mhz, SR=27.500 Msps, FEC=7/8, Horizontal polarization
Transponder 3: Frequency=10.842 Mhz, SR=27.500 Msps, FEC=7/8, Horizontal polarization
Transponder 4: Frequency=11560 Mhz, SR 13400 Msps, FEC=7/8, Horizontal polarization

Do the movies broadcasted by Boom TV that in DVD format are recorded with DTS or DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 sound (or “variations” of the same) have the same type of sound column ?
Some movies broadcasted by Boom TV are Stereo and other are Dolby Surround.

Can HDTV be received for the channels broadcasting HDTV?
No. A special receiver will be available soon for this type of channels.

Can the TV channels be viewed at one time on several TV sets, by using a single subscription?
In order to view different channels on two or several TV sets you need 2 or several receivers with related subscription. For such cases, ask for the special offers of the Boom dealers or contact Call Center (021)232.55.66 or *BOOM (0741.872.666 – Orange network) or *MYBOOM (0725.692.666 – Vodafone network).

For the TV sets with the PIP (picture in picture) function, does this system work?
No. Only if the subscriber holds two 2 STBs, both connected to the same TV set in different inputs.


About settings

What should I do if EPG software is blocked and the text menu disappeared?
If the EPG software is blocked and the menu text is missing, the receiver will be turned off from the rear button and will be restarted in a few seconds.

How do I change the language of the current channel?
If the language of the channel you are viewing at a certain time is not the preferred one, push the key "+" then with the keys up / down on the remote select the intended language (English/Hungarian), then push the key "OK" for confirmation.

The screen displays the message “No signal” and I can not return to the basic menu. What should I do?
First, check whether the aerial input behind STB is connected properly, then press the key MOSAIC, then enter the menu and go to OPTIONS / SELECT SIGNAL and enter the code (the implicit code is 0000). Select here AMOS-2 TX24L78. If the padlock is green, then the decoder receives signal and press key “OK “ to memorize the settings.

I forgot the PIN code of the receiver. What should I do?
If you forgot the PIN code of the receiver, call the customer service for unlocking.

I intend to restore the initial settings of the receiver. What should I do?
If you want to restore the initial settings of the receiver, you turn it off from the rear button, restart it, then right after on the screen the message appears "Please Wait Initializing..." you keep pressed simultaneously all the 4 buttons of the receiver, which constitute a circle until on the screen the message appears "Please disconnect...". Then you turn off and restart the receiver.
