Decoder

Device that decodes digital signals and turns it into original images and sounds ex: set-top box.

Digital

A system that turns sounds and images into a computerized string of binary data. These signals must be then decoded back to images and sounds.

DVB-S

Standard for satellite digital broadcasting

EPG

Electronic Programme Guide– used in DTV broadcasting

MPEG-2

Software for interactive compressing/encoding of TV set, called as such after Motion Picture Expert Group.

MUX/MULTIPLEX

Term used for digital broadcasting that describes a digital signal that can incorporate a various number of channels or services broadcasted through a single beam or DTV.

Platform

Card with micro-cipe, inserted in a set-top box that decrypts encoded digital signals.

Interactive television

The TV programs contain interactive enhancements that combine the TV program viewing with other features similar to a personal computer.
